Are you being served?; The rise and fall of domestic service in Kilrush, Co. Clare from 1881 to 1951.
This talk will explore the changes in society in Kilrush prior to 1881, which led to the employment of hundreds of domestic servants in the town. Lisa O’Sullivan will further examine the later changes which resulted in the disappearance of single servant households by the mid twentieth century. The talk will expand on the lives, roles, and conditions of these domestic servants.
