In what promises to be a lyrical event, Marc Ó’Riain (The Last of the Light) and Aoibhín Garrihy (Every Day is a Fresh Beginning) will share poetry and stories about landscape and memory and friendship.

From the sights and sounds and personal histories of the Loop Head Peninsula to poetry that navigates modern life with grace and empathy, these two writers have explored what it is to live today.

About the Speaker
Aoibhín Garrihy is an accomplished actress and a household name in Ireland. Her role as Neasa Dillon in RTÉ’s television series Fair City brought her public acclaim and recognition.

Her acting credits include LOVE/HATE, Mattie and The Fall. In 2017, she was a contestant in the first series of RTÉ’s Dancing with the Stars.
Not only is Aoibhín an accomplished actress; 2018 saw her as a guest chef on TV3/Virgin Media’s The Restaurant.

Widely regarded as popular, and a good friend; Aoibhín Garrihy is considered a fashion icon who has also proven herself a successful business woman.

In 2017, she founded BEO Wellness with business partner Sharon Connellan.
BEO, the Irish translation for life, living – simply to be alive and well, is all about unapologetic relaxation, quality rest and contemporary luxury in the home.

Nowadays; BEO is a nationally renowned lifestyle brand which blends live events promoting self-care with their product line which offers thoughtfully curated collections from sustainable and ethical sources in the West of Ireland. Their product range was very much inspired by the landscape around them in Co. Clare.

Aoibhín Garrihy lives in Co. Clare with husband, John Burke, and their three children.


Loop Head: The Last of the Light

The author will be reading from his book, The Last of the Light: a book of night notes, memories, short stories and images from the Loop Head peninsula.
A layered text covering themes of place, brotherhood, memory, meaning and authenticity, wilderness and silence; all accompanied by evocative imagery from the peninsula.
It will be followed by an open discussion on the themes in a Q&A session.

About the Speaker:
Marc Ó Riain is a Kilkee-born author. His recent book, The Last of the Light, published under his own imprint, Bairneach Publications, (a nod to knowing Kilkee-ites), has garnered much attention locally and nationally, featuring on RTÉ’s premier arts programme Arena, and, hailed as ‘moving and beautiful’ by the late Irish Times columnist, Michael Viney.

His work has been published in the Sunday Tribune, Southword, The Galway Review, and the anthology Abandoned Darlings, with his fiction being shortlisted for the prestigious Hennessy New Irish Writing Award and his poetry for the Gregory O’Donoghue International Poetry Prize.

Marc holds an MA in Writing from NUI Galway and is a part-time creative writing tutor.
