Clare Arts Office in conjunction with the Clare Museum is delighted to present “Discovery” a wonderful exhibition by Aileen McDonagh.
As a librarian in Co. Clare, Aileen has had the privilege of facilitating hundreds of artists’ exhibitions. This however will be her first exhibition as the artist.
With a background in Psychology Aileen has spent her adult years seeking avenues of communication that connect, capture, and express what she considers nature’s intangible magic.
During the 2021 lockdown, while messing with acrylic paints and canvases at home with her two children Aileen discovered her creation became more than she had anticipated. Since then she has spent as much time as she can exploring expression through acrylics. Aileen finds her inspiration in the landscape around her, exposing a karstness that is obvious to having endured harsh weathering. The ruggedness of exposed stone with grey and silver skies blasted over green is so inherently Irish and so powerful to her. This series of paintings aims to capture that nature using textured acrylic paints on canvas.
