Clare Arts Office in conjunction with Scariff Library Gallery is delighted to present “Dust” by Aishling Martin.
The pieces in this exhibition combine both drawing with collage techniques. The artwork includes found objects that have been collected from the coastline of West Clare. The work explores the concept of value and how it is attached to objects. By repurposing discarded items, the artist transforms them into something new where they create their own narrative when paired with the drawings. The materials used in these pieces range from sea glass and plastic to driftwood, all of which are incorporated alongside the drawing elements.
In addition to the collage and drawings, this exhibition also features paintings inspired by chandeliers. These paintings symbolize the transformative power of light. By incorporating dust into the paint, the artist establishes a connection to the found objects, exploring the tension between valuable and valueless items. The use of dust references these tensions and also references associations with the theatrical and the ability of light to transform.
This free exhibition will run from the 16th April, 2024 to 17th May, 2024 inclusive and everyone is welcome!
