Quare Clare’s Pride Weekend Celebrations have teamed up with Culture Night in Clare for this special event – a launch and reading by three excellent poets from the landmark ‘Queering the Green’ Poetry Collection which was published last year and features selections of work from more than 31 Irish LGBTQ+ poets.
This anthology which was edited by Paul Madden and published by The Lifeboat Press in 2021 will be receiving its first outing in Clare at this event. The introduction will be done by Clare-based Poet and Quare Clare member – Sarah Clancy whose work is featured in the Anthology.
Quare Clare is absolutely delighted that LGBTQ+ poets Liz Quirke and Simon Costello have accepted the invitation to come and read in Ennis on Quare Pride Weekend and for culture night. These are two really outstanding writers from Kerry and Offaly respectively, and their work will surely resonate with our audience on the night.
Queering the Green is a landmark anthology, both a retrospective of the past two decades and a snapshot of the ongoing redefinition of Irish poetry. It addresses the exclusions of the past, speaks to the diversity of the present, and points towards the radical possibilities of the future.
This event is free of charge, all welcome, the venue is wheelchair accessible, and refreshments will be served… why wouldn’t you come?
