Avia Gurman Murphy is an interdisciplinary performance and visual artist living in East Clare. She is a singer, director, producer, photographer, and video artist.
Her unique artistic work draws upon Jewish, Christian, and Celtic art forms with an emphasis on the expression of the female body and its relationship to the natural landscape. She is a graduate of the Department of Creative Media and Photography in LCFE and a graduate of the MA in Ritual Chant and Song from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. She is also a graduate of The School of Visual Theatre in Jerusalem, Israel.
Avia has collaborated with a variety of performance and video artists in art projects in Israel and Ireland, and directed, performed, and exhibited projects such as ‘The 9th and 10th Polish Arts Festival’ with the Polish women network in Limerick, ‘Expose/Embrace Vol 1 & 2’, ‘Red Moon Ensemble’ and ‘Our/A Woman Bare Landscape with Clare Women network. Recently she has exhibited a new video installation work called ‘Heartbeats’ supported by the Clare County Council which was exhibited in Culture Night in 2022. Her recent work includes – ‘A Poem about Grief’ – a short film supported by Creative Ireland with local artists from East Clare.
