Brian Fleming is a percussionist, cultural producer and theatre maker. A refugee from Dublin, he quarantined for years in Bell Harbour before settling near Miltown Malbay in North Clare.
He has a BA, a HDip in Arts Policy and Practice and an MA in Festive Arts, from NUI universities.
He cites his teachers in drumming as Mamady Keita, Monette Marino Keita, Bala Diatta and Johnny Wadham and in theatre, Raymond Keane.
He is particularly interested traditional and intercultural arts and in work about inclusion. He has played in over 30 countries and on over 50 albums and is named the Guinness Book of Records 2001 as one of the creators of the Millennium Drum, the world’s biggest drum.
Brian is a Creative Associate with the Arts Council/Creative Ireland’s Creative Schools programme and is Co-Director since 2007 of Dublin’s Big Bang Festival of Rhythm.
