A practicing visual artist from the Tulla Stables Studios and a lecturer in LSAD’s Fine Art and Education Dept, Hogan’s creative practice emerges from her innate and critial understanding of rural life. Her work is a response to the rural vernacular and cultural activities associated with traditional smallholdings. Recurring motifs in her work include reference to traditional farm / domestic hand tools, found objects and natural material collected from the land, resulting in forms which retain an innate familiarity while inviting a sense of curiosity and contemplation. Hogan’s research is driven by broader critical questions (political, social and economic) that surround contemporary rural life.
‘my work represents a story of resilience, flexibility, and steadfastness in the face of adversity and change. It is borne from a rural place and innate experiences, made from ‘the obsolete’, the ‘off cuts’ of previous forms. This produces a particular language and ‘skin’ that must either be felt or known. And if this language is unknown or confusing, that conversation is even more important’
Hogan is a founding member of the collective CeA/R/T – Co. Clare based Artists /Researchers / Teachers, whose objective is the creation and dissemination of educational insights into the process of making art and the intricacies of teaching art; the points of convergence and divergence across a diverse spectrum of creative practices. Her research undertakings are premised on the notion that there is something to be learned from the activities and experiences afforded by situated learning environments as they relate to the discourse of visual art practice and art education. The outputs of this collective recieved funding from The Arts Council, Clare Arts Office, for Out of Place / Think Again (Exhibition and Symposium 2018; Culture Night 2015, 2019, 2025)
