Fatima Lucia was the first Flamenco dancer to teach in Ireland. She trained in Spain with some of the great masters such as Mariquilla, La Chiqui de Jerez and Lydia Cabello.
Fatima started teaching in Galway in 1993, when she arrived from Cadiz, her home town in Andalucia. She has taught in Galway since (currently in 4M Dance Centre), and has also taught many workshops in Dance Centres and Universities around Ireland, including the Dance Research Forum Ireland’s International Conference, the Master of Arts in Ethnochoreology and the Master of Arts in Dance Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. She also teaches at her home studio in the Burrren, Co. Clare.
Fatima also loves working with children. She directed several musicals for the Ennis Educate Together School, teaching them Dance and Drama over the years, and having lots of fun.
Fatima directs her own Flamenco Company. As “Chango” (formerly “Al-Andar”), she has been inviting artists from Spain since 2003, successfully touring Ireland in many occassions.
Fatima also has a great interest in Irish Traditional music and dance and has done choreographic “Flamenco/Sean Nos” fusion work with Sean Nos dancers such as the Cunningham Famiy and Maire Aine Ni larnain, performing also with Irish musicians such as Martin O’Connor, Arty Mc Glynn and Sean Keane and appearing as solo Flamenco dancer in Sean Keane’s DVD “The Irish Scattering” and in several TV programmes.
