Finbarr Dillon (b 1962) is a Sound Designer and Composer living in Lisdoonvarna Co Clare, Ireland, working in the areas of Electroacoustic, Acousmatic and Sound Collages to create “Fixed Media” pieces of Sound Art.
He comes to working with sound and music from an Electronic Engineering background, having studied Electronic Engineering at DIT, Kevin St. and working for some 25 years in the eindustry both here in Ireland and in America. He was fortunate enough to get a Morrison Visa to the States, back in 1992. In late 1990 he had the opportunity to take a vocational ‘Sound Design, Audio Engineering’ course at Media Productions Services’ in Brixton, London, UK.
In March / April 2000 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which proved to be a somewhat difficult situation. In light of his employment prospects being limited, he returned first to Trinity College Dublin to do a Postgraduate Diploma in ‘Music and Media Technologies’. After completing this diploma in TCD, he went to the University of Limerick to successfully complete a Masters in Music Technology.
