John O’Donovan is a playwright and screenwriter originally from Clarecastle, now based in Ennis. His work is primarily concerned with characters living in between things – between identities, between life and death, between past and future – expressed in a realistic or poetic visual language that anchors itself both in what is and what might have been.
He has worked on attachments with the Old Vic, Abbey Theatre and Royal Court Young, and has been a recipient of the 2021 Phelim Donlon/ITI Bursary, the 2018 BBC Radio/Stewart Parker Drama Award, 2017 IARA award for best playwright and a Vault Festival, London award.
His plays have been published by Methuen Drama and Nick Hern Books and he has had stories and articles published in the Irish Times, Verbal Arts and Crannóg magazines.
