I am a passionate professional photographer and therapeutic photography/Mindful photography facilitator. I provide an enjoyable environment allowing a beginners mind to enjoy a creative process that can build on self-esteem, efficacy leading to empowerment and confidence.
While studying MA photography at Falmouth University, Cornwall I embraced the methodologies of therapeutic photography and Mindful Photography – incorporating these philosophies in my own creative approach to photography. On graduating, I emersed myself on various courses and qualified as a facilitator to teach these programmes. Presently, I am teaching children and adults in schools and workshops alongside academic qualifications where theses therapeutic/Mindful photography techniques are seen as invaluable part of the creative process.
I hold an LMPA/LBIPP trades qualification in Photography and have been a professional photographer in portraits and events for over 25 years. During a lean time during the Lockdown period, I went back to basics with photography to develop a place where I could use my passion for it for the good of the community. Starting with lockdown portraits and charity photography, this led to an MA and using therapeutic photography within the community to address issues like mental health, isolation and identity.
The mass appeal of photography lends itself to become a more accessible form of ‘therapy’ for anyone struggling with anxiety or depression (mild or moderate) or struggle with relationships and loneliness.
