History
The Sweeney Memorial Public Library, Kilkee, was founded in the 1950s with money bequeathed from Dr. William J. Sweeney, Union City, New Jersey whose grandfather was born in Kilkee in 1833. A newly refurbished library, theatre and gallery, renamed as Cultúrlann Sweeney, was opened on the 27th of February 2012 by Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs.
