I enjoy community work, so I am used to using whatever medium is needed for the particular project at hand.
As the Artistic Director for the Halloween Walks 2020 and 2021 , Light Up Lisdoon 2020 and 2021 and Spring in the Spa 2021 in Lisdoonvarna, I had ample opportunity to explore various themes. At the core of the Walks we wanted to generate a focus for people in the countrywide Level 5 restrictions and help alleviate stress, loneliness and promote community fellowship by engaging the community at every level through creative works, in as many forms as possible. Previous experience working within classroom environments, through workshops and with the Artist in Schools Programme, has highlighted for me, the importance of the students engagement from conception to completion in a project.
The form and function of art pieces are an intricate part of my practice. I am a strong believer in recycling materials where possible, in bringing new life to old things- be that a plastic bottle or a disused wall. As a youth volleyball coach of over 20 years and a previous life as an administrator in a Youth Mental Health Service, I have a particular interest in youth engagement, especially in rural communities where, very often, they are the forgotten element within our community.
