The Roots For The Future Collective is comprised of five artists from across the country: Vanya Lambrecht-Ward (Sligo), Sinead Curran (Dublin), Eileen Hutton (Kildare), Rosie O’Reilly (Dublin) and Maeve Stone (Clare).
The aim of their work is to understand, promote and pioneer methodologies within the arts and culture sector that are instrumental in shifting behaviour and adaptation as we face climate breakdown.
In 2023 The Roots For The Future Collective secured Invitation to Collaboration funding from The Arts Council led by Wexford Arts Office and supported by four other local authorities, Clare, Galway, Kilkenny and Offaly. This led to a year of development through collective and individual residencies on in these areas in which The Roots for the Future Collective spent time researching and mapping the creative ecology of the participating counties including the artists, arts organisations and arts workers who contribute to the culture of each county. Eileen Hutton was the artist who worked in Clare as part of the project.
The research aim was to create a baseline that exposes the kinds of people, places and types of work happening, and to build an in-depth understanding of where the specific adaptation pressures and possibilities lie.
Phase 1 of the Climate Art Assembly took place in the Project Arts Centre in Dublin in December 2024.
